Evaluation - Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Following the codes and conventions

Here is an image of a professional print advert, and below is the picture of the print advert we created in order to show how we follwed the codes and conventions. For instance the main image used to attract and appeal to the audience. Also the use of colour scheme which is used for both the channel 4 logo and for the backround behind the title and scheduling.

Radio script

More and more people are embracing the permanence of body modification by a way of ink.
“Tattooing has really hit the stratosphere ”
Tattoo’s tell a story; an individual, unique and cultural story. However not everyone follows the conventional ways of tattooing and tattoos are getting weirder and weirder.
“Stickmen on the bum cheeks”
“So it was like a confused snail”
“Wanted bee’s on his knees”

What some might consider art, others see as a massive turn off
 “Ew no”
“That’s quite weird”
“Awful”
“Too much, way too much”

Beauty or beast?
Permanent Ink; 21st of January, 9.00o’clock, channel 4.

Evidence of radio editing

When creating the radio trailer in the 'ice radio studio' we took pictures whilst the recording was taking place and again whilst editing the recording using adobe premier pro.

Montage of tattoos by different people participating in interviews.
‘Tattoos are widely popular and still spreading throughout each country. They can range from small, unique designs to full body paintings depending on the person. Tattoos are considered by many as pieces of art, personal to each owner. The popularity of tattoos is continuously increasing; more so now than ever before.’
Vox pop – reaction to tattoos.
‘Some people could consider a lot of tattoos to be over the top. Some go to extreme lengths with their own personal body art.’ (Show picture of the ‘Lizard man’ then their reactions to it) Others believe that there whereby tattoos are concerned you can never take it too far (footage of a tattoo artist or someone with a tattoo saying how you can never take it too far – Chris?) The variety of opinions vary due to a difference in age and gender.’
Process
The art of tattooing follows a very complicated process.  (Footage of a person saying the process of a tattoo, followed by archive material and cut aways)
Archive footage -  Kerrang magazine.
‘Tattoos increase in popularity every year, especially since the popular, realism shows, LA Ink and Miami Ink. Celebrity endorsements like this have increased the demand of tattoos varying from all ages. Even recently a popular rock music magazine ‘Kerrang!’ featured a full issue on tattoos alone (shows archive material)
Reasons behind getting a tattoo
Whether the reasoning is to spite a parent, take full advance of turning 18 or to do something completely outrageous, every persons tattoo has their own personal and special meaning behind it.
Regretting a tattoo
However, wanting to do something completely crazy may cause lasting regrets, in particular if it’s an utterly extreme idea.

Opening title

During the process of conducting the interviews with tattoo arists and people who have tattoos, as a group we filmed our opening title. We did this by writing the words 'permanant ink' on one of our friends chests, we wrote the letters on one by one so that during the editing process the letters appeared seperatley.
